Drawing a nude model June 29, 2010

In my experience from working with a live model, it is very difficult at times to capture the correct light and dark values on the figure. I can produce a good piece from working with a live model in about an hour or so. Do I think it is art? Yes, it is art. Not many people have the patience nor the skill to capture the human form as it appears in front of them. I studied art my entire life and I still feel drawing from a live model takes hours upon hours of practice in order to perfect it.

Here is one of the most dificult aspect of fine art, life drawing or painting a nude. The artist prove his ability to recreate using his pencil, brush stick or pastel. The artist technicaly exhibit from his knowledge aspects human anatomy, foreshortning and excellent use of light and shade, all these technique are used by the artist to make his visual painting. To the artist, painting from a nude is his art of human anatomy. Its not a sin???
