Interested in a read where the lines between reality and fantasy become blurred? I recommend "Reading Lolita in Teheran" - by Azar Nafisi-A western lit profesor. She pulls together the individual stories of the group of students that she invites to her home so that they can study all the texts forbidden in Khomeini's Iran freely together. In addition to the engaging discussion of the books themselves, the impact of Khomeini's rule on the country - and particularly on women - is portrayed.

Hey Aphrodite. I'm new to this too. I enjoy Patterson. But for his style with a twist I read John Connolly. If you don't mind a bit of Sci-Fi the Isaac Asimov's detective stories are worth a look. At the moment I'm reading "The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson. Its based on the true story of the opening of the 1893 World's Fair and the serial killer who called himself H. H. Holmes. Its a good read, but not the sort of thing I'd normally go for.
Mystery & Psychological thriller fans

I'm new to this whole message posting thing but if anyone is a mystery buff, and also loves psychological thrillers I would recommend a few authors. James Patterson, John Sandford, and Iris Johansen. I think they are all wonderful writers that really make you want to read the next one in the series. I was never a fan of series until I read James Patterson's "Along Came a Spider" Series. He makes up the most ingenius characters and really makes you feel them. Does anyone else like these guys??

I've read The Lovely Bones, it was really good. The absolute best novel I've read within the past year would have to be Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. He's a great writer.
